Classic Italian Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
- 28.00 oz San Marzano Tomatoes (Canned, whole, peeled)
- 0.25 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 3.00 cloves Garlic (Thinly sliced)
- 1.00 tsp Dried Oregano
- 0.50 cup Fresh Basil (Roughly chopped) Sweet Basil
- 1.00 tsp Salt (Or to taste)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and cook gently for 30 seconds until fragrant, ensuring it does not brown.
- Pour in the canned tomatoes (crushing them by hand as you add them) and the dried oregano. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a bare simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to deepen.
- Remove the lid, add the salt, and continue to simmer uncovered for another 15 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken.
- Stir in the fresh basil just before serving. Taste and adjust salt as needed. Serve over your favorite pasta.
